Dental Assistant

Purpose Of Job

Our dental assistants work closely with our dentists and under the supervision of our Practice Leader. The central assistant establishes a level of comfort and trust with both the patients and the dentist that is unmatched. The individual performs various tasks before the dentist meets with the patient, during procedures, and after the procedure is complete. The dental assistant provides continuity to the patient, ensuring a personalized experience during their visit.
Supports dental care delivery by preparing treatment room, patient, instruments and materials; passing instruments and materials; performing procedures in compliance with the dental practice act.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Prepares treatment room for patient by following prescribed procedures and protocols.
  • Prepares patient for dental treatment by welcoming, comforting, seating, and draping patient
  • Prepares patient for dental treatment by welcoming, comforting, seating, and draping patient
  • Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to treatment area; positioning instruments for dentist’s access; suctioning; performing four handed dentistry.
  • Provides materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials on instruments and in the patient’s mouth
  • Provides diagnostic information by exposing and developing radiographic studies; pouring , trimming, and polishing study casts
  • Helps dentist manage dental and medical emergencies by maintaining CPR certification, emergency drug and oxygen supply, and emergency telephone directory
  • Educates patients by giving oral hygiene, plaque control, and postoperative instructions
  • Documents dental care services by charting in patient records
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential

Education and Experience:

  • Dental Assisting diploma, or certificate for the province of Ontario
  • Knowledge of dental terminology, procedures and diagnosis
  • Must have HARP certification and experience with digital x- rays
  • WHIMIS training is mandatory
  • CPR renewal yearly

Monthly Responsibilities

  • Responsible for documenting and tracking all hand pieces slow and fast; with serial numbers noted on a sheet with initials at the end of each day
  • Provide the Manager with a maintenance report weekly or monthly of what needs to be repaired or maintained in all ops; (i.e.: hand pieces not working; broken equipment)
  • Ordering must be completed and approved by your Manager within the 4% guideline and sent to Diana at (Diana@monarchdentistry.ca) by the 1st of the month or by the date provided to you by your Manager
  • Inventory to be completed and sent to Mariam (Mariam and Joulan by the first of the month (Mariam: mariam@monarchdentist.ca)

Dental Receptionist

Location:  Monarch Dentistry, 35 Upper Centennial Pkwy, Unit E1 Stoney Creek, ON L8J 3W2

Reporting To: Practice Coordinator/Office Manager

 

Purpose of Job:

The Dental Receptionist is the face and voice of the practice. This individual is responsible for converting and welcoming new patients to Monarch, while establishing lifelong relationships. Patients feel immense trust and warmth during every interaction, creating a connection that drives each patient’s commitment to oral health. In addition to being a strong relationship former, this individual is equally dedicated to driving robust days for both hygiene and the dentist.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Answer telephone calls from patients and address them respectively and in a friendly manner when they visit the clinic
  • Schedule patient appointments and communicate schedule openings with the dentist
  • Register new patients in line with acceptable standards of the clinic
  • Help patients fill out medical forms at the clinic to avoid errors and inaccurate information
  • Explain clinical procedures and educate patients to help clarify any questions or concerns they may have
  • Inform patients of in-house dental services offered by Monarch
  • Ensure that patients are made aware of cancellation policies (2 business days notice)
  • Ensure that all patient files and documents are kept confidential and destroyed properly
  • Respond to all patient inquiries in a professional and timely manner; including emails and phone calls
  • Attends and actively participates in team meetings
  • Contributes to the team by working with clinical and administrative teams equally
  • Effectively manage recall system and accurately maintain patient database
  • Optimizes the appointment schedule by ensuring the day is full, with limited gaps
  • Manages patient calls, handling inquiries, confirmations and appointment amendments
  • Manages potential cancellations and overcomes objections
  • Processes referral letters and other patient correspondence upon receipt from provider
  • Ensure all patient billings are accurate
