Root Canal

Back

There are a number of circumstances in which a root canal has the potential to save a tooth.  In spite of the discomfort, the root canal procedure is necessary for the preservation of teeth; thus, rather than criticizing it, appreciate it.  Root canal treatment may be required for a number of reasons, and people may not need it in all circumstances.  Every dentist needs to make every effort to avoid doing root canals unless it is absolutely necessary to do so.  Root canal treatment not only allows the tooth to remain healthy and in its proper position, but it also lessens the possibility that the tooth will get infected.

Dental pulp is the name given to the substance that is found inside of each tooth.  The pulp, which is comprised of a network of blood vessels and tissues, is the most important organ in a tooth.  During root canal surgery, a dentist will enter the tooth in order to remove the infected pulp. This procedure is performed in order to remove the pulp.  Due to the fact that infected pulp may lead to the development of abscesses and other complications, it is imperative that this be done as quickly as possible.  A temporary crown will be placed over the tooth by the dentist after the pulp has been removed in order to safeguard the tooth while the permanent crown is being fabricated.
