Orthodontics is the process of correcting misalignments of the jaw and teeth during orthodontic treatment.  Teeth that are not correctly aligned or that do not fit properly may be more prone to cavities and gum disease, and they are also more difficult to clean.  The misalignment of the teeth and muscles that are responsible for chewing may cause discomfort in the back, shoulders, and neck, as well as aches and pains in the muscles and teeth that are responsible for chewing.

Orthodontic treatment offers a number of advantages, including improved oral health and, in some instances, a more appealing smile.  Furthermore, it is possible that your teeth will have a longer lifetime, which means that you will be able to relish a stunning smile for a longer amount of time.

Despite the fact that you could believe that you need orthodontic treatment just by looking at your smile, the only person who can diagnose your orthodontic difficulties and assess whether or not orthodontic treatments would be useful is a dentist.  Your dentist may do things like take X-rays, construct models of your teeth, and perform examinations in order to identify and treat any dental problems you may be experiencing. Patients who fulfill certain requirements may be good candidates for orthodontic therapy, including:

·         Open bite: Space between teeth when they come together

·         Overbite: Front teeth are too far forward

·         Underbite: Lower teeth are too far forward/Upper teeth too far back

·         Crossbite: Upper and lower teeth meet when biting together

·         Spacing: Gaps or spaces exist between teeth

·         Crowding: The dental arch cannot accommodate the teeth in the mouth
